“JHC Hospice has been the perfect vehicle for me to express my need to “give back” to my community in a volunteer capacity. Harriett Katz and her entire team have provided comprehensive training sessions as well as opportunities for continuing education, and are consistently available for support and feedback. I have found an outlet for many of the areas I have developed through the years; Reiki, Art, and writing Life Stories amongst them. Many people ask me “Why hospice?” – my answer is that doing this kind of work is so gratifying. The other volunteers I have gotten to know, the families I have developed relationships with, the patients who are so appreciative of my visits, and the overall feeling of love and giving in this community is palpable. Thank you, JHC Hospice for this wonderful opportunity.”
“When I signed up to become a Hospice Volunteer almost four years ago, it didn’t occur to me that I would get as much out of this work as I would put in. The training was a fascinating primer on end-of-life issues, sociological, psychological, spiritual, and emotional. The satisfaction of visiting patients—some just a few times, others for several months—was powerful. They and their families were so appreciative that a stranger would come into their lives at a time when every visit was important. Such a simple way to do something important! The support from Harriett Katz and her team at JHC Hospice was tremendous. They always made me feel like an important part of my patient’s care. They held lovely events to show their appreciation and were always available for consultation. Every correspondence from Harriett came with a heartfelt thanks for my work. What more can you ask as a volunteer than meaningful work for which you are well prepared and given oceans of thanks???”
